Bulgaria

Bulgaria has a strong barbershop culture and a licensing system that most of its academies do not use. BarberCourses.com lists 4 providers here, three in Sofia and one in Varna.Where to studyThe Barber Shop Academy and Gogov Barber Academy operate in Sofia, and Zeus Barber Academy serves Varna on the Black Sea coast, useful provision outside the capital. Akademia Dalgoletie adds further options across Sofia and Botevgrad. The Bulgarian sceneSofia’s barbershop culture grew quickly through the second half of the 2010s and settled into a recognisably international format: fades, beard work, styled shops with strong visual identities. Varna and Burgas support their own scenes, boosted in summer by coastal tourism.Bulgaria sits between the Turkish and Central European traditions, and both are visible: the razor-led service set common across the Balkans and Turkey, alongside the clipper-focused technique that arrived from Western Europe.Emigration matters here too. Large numbers of Bulgarians work across the EU, and barbers returning bring technique with them.Practical notesCourses are taught in Bulgarian. Costs are among the lowest in the EU while the standard in the better Sofia academies is good, which makes Bulgaria genuinely good value for anyone able to work in the language.
