Honduras

Honduras offers something rare: a free, substantial, state-run barbering course. BarberCourses.com lists 2 providers here, both in Tegucigalpa. The free public routeINFOP, the national vocational training institute, runs a 290-hour in-person Barbero course at no cost to the student. Entry requires only a minimum age of fifteen, an identity document and two photographs. Its four modules cover basic life skills, setting up and equipping a barbershop, cutting and hair care, and planning and running a microenterprise, so it teaches you to start a business as well as to cut. For anyone in Honduras weighing up a private course, this should be the first call. The private optionThe second listing is a vocational academy founded in 2015 that targets students of limited means and holds education ministry approval reported in the national press. Barbering sits within a broad diploma catalogue, and its 2026 intake enrolled over a thousand students across all subjects. It has no website of its own, campus Facebook pages are the only official channels, and publishes no barbering course duration or price. How to read credentials in this regionEvery country here has a public vocational body, INFOP in Honduras, INTECAP in Guatemala, INSAFORP in El Salvador, INATEC in Nicaragua, INADEH in Panama, INFOTEP in the Dominican Republic, INA in Costa Rica. Where a course runs through one of those, it is usually free or heavily subsidised and the certificate is nationally recognised. Everything else is a private academy issuing its own document, which can still be excellent training. The thing to be sceptical of is the middle ground: an academy claiming national endorsement without naming the body that gave it.
