Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland offers something almost no other market in this directory does: a fully funded route to a regulated barbering qualification. BarberCourses.com lists 2 providers, both in Belfast. The funded college routeBelfast Met is a public further education college delivering VTCT NVQ Diplomas in Barbering at Levels 2 and 3 from its Titanic Quarter campus. The Level 3 runs one year full time, and the critical detail is the cost: tuition is fully funded by the Department for the Economy, so students pay only around 45 pounds for uniform and 180 for a kit. Against private fees running into the thousands, that is not a close comparison, and it produces a regulated NVQ rather than an in-house certificate. Entry to Level 3 requires a Level 2 barbering qualification; a Level 2 route exists for beginners. The private alternativeBelfast Barbering Academy has run since 2019 and offers a twelve-week beginners course on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 9pm, working on live models, with a 500 pound deposit and the full fee unpublished. It claims no City and Guilds or VTCT accreditation, so the award is its own certificate. What it offers instead is small groups and evening scheduling that a full-time college course cannot. A real advantage if you are working. Weigh the two on that basis: convenience and cohort size against a funded, regulated qualification.
