Poland

Poland has built one of Central Europe’s strongest barbering scenes in barely a decade. BarberCourses.com lists 8 courses, with Warsaw accounting for eight of them.A trade with an old namePolish has its own word for the traditional barber, golibroda, literally “beard-shaver”, and it survives in the name of one of the academies listed here, Akademia Warszawski Golibroda. That is a small detail but a telling one: the Polish revival has deliberately reached back to a pre-communist craft tradition rather than simply importing an American model. How training worksFormal hairdressing qualifications run through Poland’s vocational school system, with state examinations and recognised certificates. Barbering specifically, though, is overwhelmingly taught through private academies offering intensive courses, typically a few days to a few weeks, aimed either at complete beginners or at hairdressers converting to men’s work. KK Barber Academy, Gentlemen Barber Academy, Academy of Barbers Warszawa, HX Barber Academy, CutU School and Warszawska Szkoła Barberska all operate in this space. The Polish scenePolish barbering is technically sharp and highly visual, with a strong presence on social media and a competitive shop culture in Warsaw, Kraków and the larger cities. Standards rose fast because many Polish barbers trained or worked in the UK and Ireland during the 2010s and brought British technique home with them. The influence runs clearly in both directions.Prices for training are low relative to Western Europe while the technical standard is high, which makes Poland genuinely good value. Courses run in Polish. Warsaw dominates the listings, so expect to travel to the capital for the widest choice.
