Spain

Spain has one of Europe’s strongest barbering cultures, and it shows in the training. BarberCourses.com lists 9 academies here, in Madrid (3), Barcelona (2), Valencia (2), Seville and Elche. How training worksThe formal route runs through Spain’s vocational system, Formación Profesional, where the relevant qualification is a Grado Medio in hairdressing and hair cosmetics, studied over two years at a public or private institute. Alongside it sits a large and genuinely serious private academy sector offering intensive barbering courses measured in weeks, which is where most working Spanish barbers actually train. A curso de barbería intensivo is a well-understood product here, not a marketing gimmick.Where to studyMadrid leads with five listed courses, including Escuela Provalliance Madrid and Academia Daniel Matallín. Barcelona and Valencia each add two. Several of Spain’s best-known barbering educators run their own academies: Alberto Dugarte appears twice in this directory, through both his own Academia de Barbería and the Barbers Crack Academy, and is among the most visible names in Spanish-language barbering education. Biondo Barbería Academia, Baranda Barbers Academy, Evolution Barber School and Sons of Barber Academy round out a competitive market. The Spanish sceneSpanish barbering is technically ambitious and heavily competition-driven. Spain produces a disproportionate number of barbers who teach internationally, and Spanish-language barbering education reaches far beyond Spain itself. Academies here regularly train students from across Latin America. The house style leans towards precision: tight skin fades, hard parts, sharp beard architecture and detailed freehand work.If you speak Spanish, this is one of the best-value places in Europe to train seriously. If you do not, check the language of instruction before booking, as most courses run entirely in Spanish.
