Wales

Wales has a compact but well-credentialled barbering sector, with two VTCT approved centres in Cardiff alongside its further education colleges. BarberCourses.com lists 5 providers here, in Cardiff and Aberdare.Training routesWales uses the same Level 2 and Level 3 structure as England, delivered through further education colleges and private academies. Cardiff and Vale College runs barbering as part of its mainstream FE provision, and Coleg y Cymoedd offers a Level 3 in Barbering for those going beyond the entry qualification. On the private side, The Barbering School of Wales operates in both Cardiff, useful because it means the west of the country is not left dependent on the capital, and Thomas Lloyd Barbering Academy adds a further Cardiff option.Afro and textured hairWorth highlighting: Afro Hair Academy Wales specifically addresses Afro and textured hair. This remains a genuine gap in mainstream British barbering education, where many syllabuses still treat textured hair as an optional add-on rather than core competency. If you intend to work in any diverse urban area, training that covers a full range of hair types is not a specialism. It is basic employability. The Welsh sceneCardiff both support healthy independent barbershop scenes, and Welsh barbers work closely with the broader UK trade. Because the sector here is small, courses fill quickly and choice is narrower than in England. If a Cardiff intake is full, it is often worth looking at Bristol or the wider south west rather than waiting a full academic year.
