AF&Co Academy, Swatar

AF&Co Academy is the only provider in this directory’s Malta listings whose accreditation can be verified: it is licensed by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority under licence number 2023-022, and each of its three courses carries a stated MQF level and ECTS value. It teaches from Swatar rather than Valletta, and is run by the barber behind Antonio’s Barber Shop, who trained in the UK.

Three awards build on each other. The Award in Basic Barbering Skills is MQF Level 1, 3 ECTS, eight weeks and 75 hours, at 1,000 euros, covering reception, health and safety, sterilisation and shampooing. The Award in Intermediate Barbering Skills is MQF Level 2, 5 ECTS, twelve weeks and 125 hours, at 1,000 euros, covering scissor cutting on dummy heads, chemically treated hair, colour, bleach, highlights and straightening, and requires the Level 1 award first. The Award in Advanced Barbering Skills is MQF Level 3, 6 ECTS, twelve weeks and 150 hours, at 1,500 euros, covering clipper cutting, fading, hot towel shaving and beard grooming. Note the hour breakdowns include substantial self-study alongside class time. Groups are capped at six, teaching is in English and Maltese, entry is from 16, and monthly payment plans are available. Kit and course book cost extra.
