Akron Barber College
Akron Barber College is located on South Arlington Road in Akron, Ohio, and dates its founding to 1920. Its barbering course requires 1,800 clock hours for graduation, which takes approximately 11 months for full-time students attending eight hours a day, 40 hours a week, across 48 weeks. Part-time schedules are arranged for some applicants, with a full eight-hour Saturday among the requirements. A shorter 1,000-hour program is also listed, and students may enroll and begin training on any Tuesday, subject to openings.
Classroom theory covers hygiene, sanitation and sterilization, rules and regulations, barbering history, and ethics and shop management, alongside practical training in men’s haircutting, razor cutting, styling, coloring and hair relaxing. On completion the college files the paperwork for the Ohio State Barber Board examination. It is approved by the Ohio State Barber Board and for veterans’ training.
