Alamo City Barber College

Alamo City Barber College operates on Bandera Road in San Antonio and offers two Texas barbering programs. The Class A Barber program requires 1,000 training hours and takes about seven months full time at 35 hours a week, with theory classes running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Licensure involves two state-issued examinations: a written exam after 900 hours and a practical exam at 1,000 hours.

The Cosmetology Operator to Class A Barber crossover runs 300 hours over roughly three months at 25 hours a week and is open to students who already hold a cosmetology license, who also sit written and practical examinations. The college describes itself as an accredited institution and participates in Title IV financial aid, GI Bill benefits and state vocational rehabilitation funding. Its student clinic is open Tuesday through Saturday and offers haircuts, shaves, facials, manicures and other services to the public.
