Barber School of Pittsburgh
Barber School of Pittsburgh has campuses on Banksville Road in Pittsburgh and William Penn Highway in Monroeville. Its barber program is 1,250 clock hours and can be completed in as few as nine months in day classes or about twelve months on the evening and weekend schedule. A crossover program for cosmetologists already licensed in Pennsylvania is 695 hours, granting 555 transfer hours toward the 1,250-hour total, and runs roughly five and a half months full time.
Instruction spans sanitation and sterilization, bacteriology, straight razor work, cutting, styling and hairpieces, coloring, facial massage, shop management, and Pennsylvania barber law and ethics. A State Board Practice unit uses practice tests and clinic simulations to prepare students for the Pennsylvania State Board examination, and a 75 percent average is required to receive a certificate. The school is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences and operates a public clinic where students perform haircuts, shaves, beard trims and facials.
