Barber School
Barber School in Amsterdam is the strongest entry in this directory’s Dutch listings, and the only one offering genuinely recognised MBO qualifications. It holds its own institution code, BRIN 31RZ, and delivers three crebo-registered programmes: Kapper at niveau 2 under crebo 25641, Haarstylist Heer or Barbier at niveau 3 under crebo 25643, and Salonmanager Heer at niveau 4 under crebo 25645. It publishes Inspectie van het Onderwijs documentation, and students aged 18 and over qualify for DUO student finance and free public transport, which is only possible for recognised programmes.
The MBO route runs in both BOL and BBL formats: Herenkapper over two years at niveau 2, Haarstylist Heer over two years at niveau 3, and Salonmanager Heer over one year full time or three years work-based at niveau 4. The niveau 3 BOL course is priced at 5,000 euros a year plus a one-off 1,750 euro tool kit, or 23 monthly instalments of 434.78 euros with a discount for paying up front; it runs three days at school plus two on placement, 09:00 to 14:30, capped at ten students. Alongside the MBO provision the school runs retraining courses, Barber Allround over 15 or 30 weeks, and a six-week full-time summer school, plus master courses in fading, scissor work, Afro hair, colour, photography and education. A second site operates in Haarlem.
A note on Dutch credentials, since the labels here are easy to misread. The recognised vocational route is MBO, identified by a crebo number and quality-assured through SBB. CRKBO is a separate register concerned with VAT exemption and training-provider quality. It is not a qualification framework, and a CRKBO-registered academy issues its own diploma, not an MBO one. Both are legitimate; they are simply not the same thing, and the word “erkend” gets used loosely for both.
