Boom Champion Youth Barbering Programme, Trinidad
A location correction: Boom Champion operates from Curepe and Princes Town, not Port of Spain as older directory data recorded.
Its Youth Barbering Programme is the most distinctive offering in the Caribbean listings, and worth understanding for what it is: it is aimed at young people from age ten upwards, with no prior experience required, and runs 21 days over three weeks in the July and August school holidays at 2,500 Trinidad and Tobago dollars.
The structure is well thought out. Week one covers foundations, clipper safety, hygiene and guard sizes. Week two builds skills through fade techniques and grooming. Week three is explicitly about confidence, covering client interaction, and ends with certification. Places are limited. Be clear that the certificate is the shop’s own, with no NEC, MIC-IT, NTA or CVQ certification behind it. This is a holiday skills programme for young people rather than a route to a national qualification, and it is a good one on those terms.
