Cardiff and Vale College – Barbering
Cardiff and Vale College runs a full-time Level 2 barbering programme from its City Centre Campus on Dumballs Road, across the full academic year from September to late June at 18 hours a week. As a public further education college it is the lower-cost route in Cardiff: the only stated charge is a 30 pound salon fee, with learners buying their own barber kit and PPE.
The course is based on the Level 2 Barbering National Occupational Standards and is recognised by the British Barbering Association. Note that the course page does not name an awarding body, so if you need a specific City and Guilds or VTCT certificate, ask before applying. Entry requires a prior Level 1 in hairdressing or barbering, or a minimum of three GCSEs at grades A* to D including maths and English or Welsh, or an equivalent Level 2, plus a successful interview and initial assessment. Students also complete mandatory essential skills, a two-week work experience block in March, and arrange a one-day-a-week placement across the year, so factor in that you will need to find a salon willing to host you.
