Denmark College

Denmark College offers barbering at its Chicago campus on South Wabash Avenue, as well as at its Merrillville, Indiana campus. The barbering program is 1,500 clock hours and can be completed in as little as 11 months full time. Classroom instruction covers state regulations, infection control, the properties of the hair and scalp, cutting techniques, barbershop management and professionalism, and the school states the coursework is designed to instill the knowledge needed to pass the state exam.

Practical training includes equipment care, shampooing and massage, scalp treatments and facials, shaving and lining including mustache and beard work, haircutting and hair coloring. Students work on the clinic floor in a barbershop setting, serving clients under instructor supervision. Textbooks, tools and supplies are included in enrollment. The Merrillville campus additionally offers cosmetology and medical assistant programs.
