Groomed Barber Training Academy

Groomed Barber Training Academy operates from The Cottage on Andries Pretorius Street in Somerset West, Western Cape, and is barbering-specific throughout. There is no general hairdressing or beauty provision sitting alongside it. Founder Eric Way Lovemore has been covered in the South African trade press, and the academy has run both in-person and online training.

Four in-person courses are published. The Comprehensive Barber Course runs nine days and covers hair growth patterns, clipper and scissor technique, hot towel shaving, facial waxing, gentlemen’s colouring and current trends. Hot Towel and Wet Shaving is a two-day course working with a cut-throat razor on live models, capped at four students. Clipper Fundamentals is a six-day course for beginners, and Fading and Latest Trends is a three-day intermediate course covering fade variations and combined clipper and scissor cutting, practised on mannequin heads. Equipment and products are included in the fee for every course except the intermediate fading course, where students bring their own tools. In-person fees are not published on the site. No Services SETA, QCTO or DHET registration is claimed, so certification here should be understood as in-house rather than a national qualification.
