Hawaii Institute of Hair Design
Hawaii Institute of Hair Design is a private school in downtown Honolulu offering a Barber Styling program alongside a Cosmetologist program. The barber styling curriculum runs 1,500 clock hours, typically completed in about 49 weeks of full-time study, and is split into roughly 334 hours of classroom theory and 1,166 hours of clinic practice with set minimum service counts. Coursework covers bacteriology and sanitation, haircutting and hairstyling, shaving and beard design, facials, and chemical services, and includes time on the laws and rules governing barbering in Hawaii plus state exam review.
The school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. The barber styling program is licensed through the Hawaii Department of Education and the cosmetology program through the Hawaii Board of Barbering and Cosmetology; both are approved for veterans’ benefits. Classes run Monday through Saturday, with new groups starting in alternating months.
