HCUC’s Uxbridge College delivers the City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering as a one-year, full-time programme based at the Hayes campus, running Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. The qualification is built around nine units covering health and safety, advising and consulting with clients, shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp, cutting men’s hair, shaping facial hair, drying and finishing, and perming. Assessment combines practical barbering tasks observed by tutors and assessors with online examinations, supported by college sessions, group discussions and written assignments.

Applicants must be at least 16; no previous qualifications are needed, but there is an interview to assess suitability along with literacy and numeracy assessment. The course is aimed both at those just starting out and at those who already have some basic industry skills. Progression routes include work in barbershops and salons, or the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering, also listed by the college.
