International Barber University, Ljubljana
The name invites scepticism, and it should. This is not a university. What it actually is, though, is the most substantial barbering school in Slovenia, on Kersnikova ulica in central Ljubljana, with a detailed week-by-week curriculum and dated intakes.
The flagship Full Barber Education runs nine weeks with an optional three-week advanced extension, three times a week from 16:00 to 21:00, at 3,000 euros plus VAT. Booking takes a non-refundable reservation deposit of 656 euros plus VAT credited against the total, with the balance due a fortnight before the start. Note that the 656 figure quoted in some listings is the deposit, not the course price. Weeks one to three cover tools, hygiene, head shape assessment, scissor work on mannequins, beard shaping, classic men’s cuts, taper fades and client communication; weeks three to nine move onto real clients with guest instructors; the optional final block covers advanced fades, precision clipper work, editorial styling, beard sculpting and portfolio building. Shorter courses run from 1,200 to 1,600 euros plus VAT, with online modules from 30 euros.
The school deserves real credit for one thing. It states plainly on its own site that its Certificate of Completion does not meet the legal requirements to operate a barbershop in Slovenia, and that formal hairdressing school credentials are needed for that. Almost no private academy in this directory is that honest about the limits of its own award.
