J's Barber College

J’s Barber College is a barbering-only school on Center Street in New Iberia, Louisiana. Its main offering is a 1,500-clock-hour barbering program covering the history of barbering, sanitation and sterilization, haircutting, shaving, chemical services, hair coloring and shop management, leading to licensure through the state board. The college also runs a 700-hour barber instructor program for applicants who already hold a current barbering license and want to teach.

The school is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences and holds a Louisiana state license. Full-time classes meet Tuesday through Friday during the day. Admission requires applicants to be at least 17 with a high school diploma or equivalent, and students must maintain a 70 percent average and attend at least 67 percent of scheduled hours. The college participates in federal Title IV aid and accepts veterans’ benefits and Louisiana Rehabilitation Services funding.
