Kenya Coast National Polytechnic – Hair Cutting & Barbering, Mombasa
This is genuine public provision. Kenya Coast National Polytechnic was established in 1950 and granted national polytechnic status by statutory order in 2016, teaching from Mombasa with a second campus at Waa in Kwale.
Its Artisan Certificate in Hair Cutting and Barbering runs four weeks part time and is examined by the polytechnic itself. It sits within a Fashion Design and Cosmetology department whose other courses show how the examining bodies vary: the year-long Artisan Certificate in Beauty Therapy and Hair Dressing is examined by NITA, the national industrial training authority, while the short courses in weaving and braiding, manicure and pedicure, and massage are polytechnic-examined like the barbering one.
That distinction matters if you are choosing between them, a NITA-examined qualification carries more weight with employers than an internally examined short course, though four weeks part time at a national polytechnic is a reasonable and low-risk way in. Fees are not published. One correction: this listing previously pointed at a third-party aggregator whose page carries no content; the polytechnic’s own department page is the link here.
