Loughborough College

Loughborough College runs barbering at its Radmoor Road campus through City and Guilds qualifications at Levels 2 and 3. The Level 2 Diploma in Barbering is a one-year full-time course covering cutting men’s hair and facial hair alongside shampooing and conditioning, styling, colouring, scalp massage, client consultation, health and safety and product promotion. Entry requires four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English, or a Level 1 hairdressing diploma, and students buy a barbering kit and uniform.

The Level 3 course is also one year full time and comprises eight units, adding wet shaving and specialist hair and scalp massage. It asks for a Level 2 in barbering or Level 3 in hairdressing plus English and maths at grade C/4. Both include visits to national hair shows and demonstrations from working barbers, with work experience built in for those already employed in a barbershop.
