Mike Taylor Education Barber College
Mike Taylor Education, which also trades as the Great British Barbering Academy, is a VTCT approved centre and a listed apprenticeship training provider based in Poole, Dorset. Its barbering qualifications are the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering Studies, the VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering and the VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering, with routes for school leavers aged 16 to 18, apprentices and privately funded adult learners.
The Level 2 NVQ is aimed at those with little or no experience and runs either full time over 10 weeks, Monday to Friday, or part time across 12 months on one day a week, requiring a minimum of 130 client haircuts. It covers consultation, health and safety, tool maintenance, shampooing, clipper and scissor cutting, fading and outlines, facial hair shaping, shaving, blow-drying and reception duties. Short day courses cover introduction to barbering, advanced fades and blades, hairdresser-to-barber conversion and a two-day shaving NVQ.
