NIWE Academy

NIWE Academy is a beauty school in downtown Calgary, on the fourth floor of the CORE shopping centre on 8 Avenue SW. It offers a barbering diploma listed at 16 weeks, delivered as a blend of online theory and in-person practical training, with students working on real clients under licensed mentors. Theory covers trichology, anatomy, infection prevention, chemistry, tool maintenance and business management. Practical work covers consultation, shampooing and scalp massage, solid form, uniform and graduated cuts, tapers and fades, clipper work, hot shaves and beard design.

The academy states the curriculum is built around the Alberta trade standard and includes licensing exam preparation, positioning graduates for provincial licensing and apprenticeship entry. Intakes alternate between weekday and weekend cohorts. NIWE also runs hairstyling, esthetics and nail diplomas, a hairstyling apprenticeship programme, and shorter certificate courses.
