Retro Barbers Academy

Retro Barbers runs a working barbershop and training academy at 17b Denmark Street in Limerick. Teaching is structured across three graded levels, each running for five weeks with one evening class a week. Level 1, an introduction to barbering aimed at beginners and hairdressers with limited experience, meets from 6pm to 8pm and covers clipper confidence, sectioning, head shape assessment, scissors work, scissors-over-comb, clipper blending, outlining and tapering.

Level 2 moves on to advanced clipper work, combined scissors and clipper cutting, tapering, fading, skin fading and finishing, with students asked to bring models each week. Level 3 adds razor and beard trimming, disconnected haircuts, consultation, health and safety and commercial styles such as taper, skin and burst fades, and includes a training manikin head. An intensive barber course is also offered.
