Sheffield College
The Sheffield College teaches barbering at its City Campus on Granville Road, where the college’s hair and beauty provision is based. A Level 2 barbering course runs one day a week and is intended to give learners the knowledge and practical skills to work in the barbering industry; the college strongly recommends taking a paid or unpaid placement in a local barbershop alongside study. The same level is also timetabled as an evening course.
Barbering is additionally available through the college’s Level 2 hairdressing and barbering apprenticeship, which leads to an NVQ Level 2 diploma. Apprentices spend four days a week with an employer and one day in college, covering shampooing, cutting men’s hair and facial hair, setting and dressing hair, health and safety, product knowledge and client communication. Practical assessment takes place on paying clients in the college’s Revive salon, and applicants must secure a salon or barbershop employer before starting.
