The Scottish Barbering School
The Scottish Barbering School occupies a Glasgow city-centre venue beside Central Station, and describes its teaching as the lost art of men’s hairdressing. It is a private trainer rather than a college, and has hosted education sessions for brands including L’Oréal Professionnel and American Crew.
The main programme is a six-month course running three days a week from 10:00 to 16:00 at £5,000, with interest-free payment plans. It takes students from no hairdressing experience to working men’s hairdresser, covering health and safety, head and face shape analysis, scissor over comb, clipper over comb, point cutting, open razor work, hair colouring and hot towel shaving, and produces a photographic portfolio with written analysis. One-day courses run at £150 each in introduction to men’s hairdressing, designer men’s cutting and men’s fashion hairdressing, and a luxury hot towel shaving day runs at £295 with demonstrations in the morning and model work in the afternoon. All prices are inclusive. No awarding body or SCQF level is claimed anywhere, so this is an in-house certificate, a meaningful difference from the college courses listed alongside it. Dates are arranged on enquiry rather than published.
