Sandwell College delivers barbering from its Central Campus on Spon Lane, West Bromwich, with practical training carried out in the college salons on members of the public. The main course is the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering, taken full time over one year, covering health and safety, client consultation, shampooing and scalp massage, cutting men’s hair, facial hair cutting, styling, promoting products and creating a themed image. Assessment mixes practical observation with online multiple-choice tests, assignments and work packs marked externally by the awarding body. Entry is normally GCSE grade 3 in English and maths, or ESOL or Functional Skills at Level 1.

A part-time VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering runs one evening a week over a year, concentrating on health and safety, consultation, cutting hair using barbering techniques and facial hair cutting. Barbering is also offered as a pathway within the college’s Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills.
